Game Play

Game Play

GENERAL

I play the game semi realistically. Supernaturals are a thing but same sex pregnancy isn't. I only did this so my sims would adopt more. Sims must pay and earn for everything they want. No money cheats or anything of that nature. If a sim needs money for something big they can take a loan out for it.
My sims wants are also a big part of how I play. If my sim isn't attracted to someone I will not force them on that person.
Another big part of how I play is my ROS. I didn't want all my sims to be perfect sims all the time with perfect marriages and grades. Instead I roll for it.
EXAMPLE: Mr. Jones rolls that he will have kids, at least 3 and he will be a cheater. His life will loosely be based off of that.

AGING

Much like Crystal Creek, I play in a calendar type of way. Her example is the best one I've seen so I'll link it but also tell you. Crystal Creek

I've recently changed over to playing a "calendar" type aging system which was adapted from Lakeside Heights. And thanks to Carla at Sullivan, I was able to wrap my brain around this new way of playing and it seems to be working out pretty well. Basically, I'm playing each household based on a calendar year and currently (May 2010), each family update represents 1 month. The example Carla used that really helped me out is:

ROUND 1
Jan '10 - Smith
Feb '10 - Jones
Mar '10 - Jackson
Apr '10 - Klein
May '10 - Wong
Jun '10 - Sawyer
Jul '10 - West
*Because I only have 7 households, that'd be the end of the round.

So then for Round 2, it might go:
Aug '10 - Sawyer
Sep '10 - West
Oct '10 - Klein
Nov '10 - Smith
Dec '10 - Jones
Jan '11 - Wong*
Feb '11 - Jackson
*I will add 1 year to each of their ages at the beginning of the year and if any sims ages to the next life stage, then they will be featured in a birthday post in January/Winter.

I will also be adding 1 year to each of their ages at the beginning of the year and do birthday post in January. It just seems the easiest way to do this whole realism thing.

With this change also comes me following my own aging system

Baby: 0-1
Toddler: 1-3
Child: 4-12
Teen: 13-17
Adult: 18-59
Elder: 60+

Adoption

Adoption in my game is not taken from the normal adoption way. There is only 1 exception to this rule that I will get into a little later.

When a sim wants to adopt they have to go through a year long process. This progress consist of;
1. Going to the social services at town hall.
2. Paying the application progress which is 2500 dollars. It is not refundable.
3. Once you have been approved you will be put on a list. Depending on how old you want depends on how long it will take.
* It is also possible to foster while you wait which happens immediately and you can choose to adopt that child after 3 months.

Instead of using the service adoption option the L&D stone will be used. The only time this is not the case is when a child is being fostered. When a child is being fostered they reside at the foster care center in town: Goldcrest Community Care

If a sim loses there children via being a bad parent they are placed in a foster care system they end up at Goldcrest Community Care as well.

Fostering a child is free after you pay for the application progress which is 2500 dollars. After you have been approved you get an amount every month from the government depending on age and how many kids you choose to foster.

Below are the fees and payout.

Adoption Fees:

Baby: 10.000
Toddler: 8500
Child: 7500
Teen: 5000

Foster Care Payout

Baby: 1500
Toddler: 1000
Child: 500
Teen: 100

Once your sim has been notified that they are getting a child of there choice they have the remainder of the year (Ex: the process took 6 months. They now have 6 months to come up with the money) to pay the money for said child. Most adoptions don't take a a full year but that is the max amount of time it can take for some depending on back up.

As the city grows I'm sure I will have more then 12 families which means they don't get paid one year or a next. With that being said I still only plan to pay them when they are played. Other then that they are on there own.

Birth Control

Birth control in my game is very simple compared to other systems I've seen.
Every woman has the option of taking birth control and it is sent to there house once a month.

It is part of the government program to stop unwanted pregnancies and is included in there insurance that every single sim has through the government from there taxes.

Taxes

Taxes in my game is also a fairly simple system. Everybody pays 5% of there household net worth every year. Whether I play that family that year or no does not stop them from paying taxes.

Taxes are due every January for the previous year. December is when the household net worth's are updated.

Just like in real life my sims have deductions as well on their taxes.

  1. $1500 per dependent (Child under 18, Student under 23, nonworking elder)
  2. $2000 for farming families
  3. $500 for home owners
  4. $700 for married couples
  5. $1000 for business owners

Divorce

Divorce require a few things before they are official.
1. Must submit an application. It cost 500 dollars
2. Depending on the case depends on how the rulings are decided.
3. Alimony is a thing and depends on the case.
EX: Bob cheats on Karen.. Bob now has to pay alimony and must give up the car and house.
EX 2: Bob and Karen just dont love each other anymore. They have a mutual divorce and Karen takes the car but leaves Bob the house. Bob makes way more then Karen and only has to pay alimony for 6 months while Karen gets back on her feet.

Child support is also a big thing. Depending on the case depends on the child support payments.

Marriage Licence: $500

Transportation

Driving licence cost $500 dollars to get. (Sims may start learning to drive at 15 and may take the test and get there licence at 16)

I hope the way I play makes better sense to everyone. This is my third time starting a neighborhood from scratch. I better understand how this works and also better understand my writing style.  Enjoy ♥
